Jewels Basel Show – Selim Mouzannar
- April 11, 2019
Last March, between the 21stand the 24th Selim Mouzannar unveiled Gemma in Basel, his latest jewelry collection, at the Wildt’sches Haus baroque villa, known for its charming address. Located close to the “Messe Basel” where Baselworld is being held every year as one of the largest international exhibitions for watches, jewelry, precious stones and related industries.
The villa was chosen on purpose by Nana Fink in order to create the first designer jewelry showroom she entitled Jewels Basel.
Selim Mouzannar immediately liked this magnificent, warm and refined villa, drawing a direct parallel to the intimacy and exclusive address of the Hotel Daniel in Paris that perfectly resonates with the spirit of the brand.
He took this opportunity to visit the Baselworld gemstone hall, where he went for 3 consecutive days searching for stones. It gave him the opportunity to meet his usual suppliers, all attending this international fair.
For Selim, there are two ways to look for stones. First and foremost, he looks for a stone in a very precise carat size or cut in order to fulfill a special order. As an example and shown in this article, he is there still in the process of negotiating this pair of Burmese rubies in the shape of drops, because rubies have become so rare that their prices have become exorbitant.
The second case scenario is when he wants a stone just because it inspires him and can picture it in a new collection.
This was precisely the case for these extremely rare Paraíba tourmalines whose crystal clarity resembles the ice blue of an Arctic iceberg. This stock of small round brilliant cut stones will allow Selim to try them out on his Fish for Lovecollection. He can already imagine the refreshing contrast between the turquoise hues of the Paraíba tourmalines and the purity of the white of the enamel.
Selim also looked for emerald cut stones in order to enrich his new Gemma collection showcasing rings made from stones of exceptional colors such as green tourmalines, light blue aquamarines, morganites or even rhodolites.
He also explains that the geometric perfection of the emerald cut increases the mineral intensity of the stone. Each of these Gemma rings is a unique combination of colors, between a central stone and two side stones surrounded by pink gold and with an enamel contour.
Because Basel is the city where all the jewelry trades meet in a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity Selim has already committed in participating to the 2020 edition of Jewels Basel.
